Take the NCMS/APQC Operational Risk Survey!

On February 19, 2003, a workshop was held at the Headquarters of the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to form a new cross-industry initiative, the NCMS Enterprise and Supply Chain Risk Management and Continuity Forum. Representatives from a variety of functional disciplines within companies from many industries, as well as the government sector, leading researchers and technology innovators came together to learn from each other, to consider participation in the Forum as a unique opportunity to improve the resilience and security of their enterprises and supply chains, and to learn about specific opportunities now available for generating business benefits and competitive advantage through the leverage of collaborative projects.

The world is changing rapidly. Risks and threats facing every enterprise today are also disturbingly dynamic. The competitiveness of our enterprises and even the quality of life of our society demand action. The Forum offers the proven power of collaboration, leveraging knowledge and resources across industry sectors, as an alternative to action in isolation, alone. The National Symposium on Competitiveness and Security, in late 2002, concluded that action by industry should address key themes, including:

  • We can learn from others.
  • We must seek partnerships.
  • We must rely on innovation.
  • We must apply technology, but also manage its negative impacts.
  • We must make security a core business value.
  • We must recognize that people matter.
  • We must seek systemic solutions.

The NCMS Enterprise and Supply Chain Risk Management and Continuity Forum embodies these principles, and provides a unique and timely opportunity for corporate action on critical issues. The members of this Forum will be well positioned to turn risk to competitive advantage.

This web site contains information from the 19 February NCMS workshop. It is intended to support workshop registrants and their companies in the process of formally joining the NCMS Enterprise and Supply Chain Risk Management and Continuity Forum.
